About

Camellia House forms part of the adaptive reuse of the historic Camellia Grove Hotel in Alexandria, transforming the upper levels into boutique accommodation that reflects the hotel’s renewed identity. The project reimagines the existing structure with a restrained architectural language — one that prioritises proportion, light, and texture over embellishment. Original masonry and joinery elements are retained and expressed, while new insertions in timber and brass establish a quiet dialogue between heritage character and contemporary craft.

Spatially, the design introduces a series of refined, compact rooms that each frame views toward the surrounding industrial streetscape. Material continuity between the pub and accommodation ensures a cohesive architectural narrative, uniting hospitality and dwelling within a single, coherent framework. Camellia House demonstrates a sensitive approach to adaptive reuse — where minimal intervention and careful detailing deliver enduring value through simplicity, restraint, and respect for place.
